Lanzarote App

Image
Today's blog post is going to be a bit different. I'm going to be talking about more of a digital experience. Here is the story of how a few local volunteers wanted to help out the island of Lanzarote:.  Our story The Lanzarote App was created during the nationwide quarantine of 2020, I think we all know what we are talking about and remember it perfectly. Needless to say, we had a vision, we knew things were going to be very complicated for everyone, especially for local business owners because tourism had stopped completely. It all had changed so rapidly... It was then we started to work on the project, a free app designed to promote the island and everything in it, something that would be free and accessible to everyone, as our motto goes "free now, free forever."  We wanted to create a single, easy-to-use, informative app, that contained everything you could do, see, feel touch, and experience on the island. We wanted to help out those local businesses, especiall

Pitaya Festival

Pitaya Festival You should really check this out! Pitaya Festival, the event with the most soul on the island of Lanzarote. Pitaya Festival unites great concepts such as Community, art, and joy ; and was created in order to bring together all those who want to spend a relaxed day with friends in an idyllic outdoor need tor setting. This cool festival is part of Laura Sanz's project, PITAYA COLIVING, who after having lived abroad for many years, saw the need to create a community and help her group of digital nomads and entrepreneurs. Laura is preparing a coliving space in Lanzarote for like-minded people who work remotely *wink wink* ;)   traveling around the world and, who have chosen the island as an anchor point, not only to share a coworking and coliving space but also to enjoy their time for leisure.  Pitaya Festival offers a day of complete disconnection, with several yoga sessions, the possibility of resting or taking a dip in the pool, eating a healthy brunch with local pr

Camino de Guatifay

Camino de Guatifay Welcome to the start of an interesting hiking route, located between the towns of Guinate and Ye on the northern side of the island!  This route contains a large range of biodiversity and is distant from all the noise generated from the roads.  This is how the trail starts to look like, once you get closer and closer to the Risco which will allow you to witness these fantastic views of La Graciosa and the rest of the Arhcipiélago Chinijo: I mean look at this Visibility wasn't the greatest the day I hiked this trail, however, it normally has such a clear view it looks like you're staring at a painting at an exclusive art museum.  This is an example of Maritime Sunburst Lichen, otherwise known as Xanthoria parietina, it is a foliose, or leafy, lichen. It has a wide distribution, and many common names such as common orange lichen, yellow scale, maritime sunburst lichen, and shore lichen. It can be found near the shore on rocks or walls, and also on inland rocks

El Mirador de Haria, spectacular northern views.

El Mirador de Haria, spectacular northern views. I mean come on... just look at this view... it's absolutely incredible.  To the north of the island, at some point on the narrow and winding road that descends to the town of Haría, a viewpoint of the same name awaits, among palm trees and dragon trees, ready to be discovered. Also known as Mirador de Malpaso, in relation to the valley that welcomes it, its prominence was won in 1966, when the Canarian artist Cesar Manrique was commissioned to design, at the top of the massif, a little house that would serve as a resting place for hikers. The viewpoint, safe from the proliferation of large tourist developments of the 70s, offers panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean, the imposing Volcán de La Corona, and the friendly town of Haría. This impressive place is considered by many to be the most diverse area of the island in geological, agrarian, and landscape terms. Nowadays, the Mirador de Haria is an Interpretation Center for the Fa

Lanzarote's authentic food, Teleclub de Tao.

Image
Have you ever wondered what authentic Canarian food tastes like? Perhaps you have already, but I hope it wasn't one of those massively touristic-based restaurants near the old-town of Puerto del Carmen...  This is what our food looks like: This is called Queso a la Plancha (it's local fried cheese with a few potatoes and Mojo Rojo, you know what those things are by now since you have read all of my posts :) ) Introducing the Teleclub de Tao Before we go into this restaurant in particular, let's give you a brief overview of what a Teleclub is. A Teleclub is a place where there is normally a bar and restaurant area, and other rooms where different activities (such as card games) take place. There's usually a tv around, always on and showing the local news or a lucha canaria (Canary Island-style wrestling) match.  Teleclubs are basically a place where you can drink good wine, eat amazing food and have a laugh with some locals.  There are several on the island, I'll p

Tenesar and its Charco de Los Hombres

Image
One of Lanzarote's less-known coastal towns, Tenesar is truly a beautiful little spot to appreciate Lanzarote's western coast. Part of the municipality of Tinajo, Tenesar contains quaint houses and narrow streets with cute names (fun fact: most streets are named after sea creatures).   A beautiful little place to get away from all of the noise and traffic of the island. Most Tenesar residents live in the town during the summer only, the number of barbecues, chairs, tables, and sunbeds represent the way of life in Tenesar... Great company, great food, and even better views! It doesn't stop there though! Tenesar's beautiful coast contains many natural pools (otherwise known as Charcones or Charcos) pssst if you haven't checked out my other blog post about Los Charcones, here's the link:  https://www.lanzarotedigitalnomads.blog/2021/05/los-charcones-beautiful-natural-pools.html , and here's one of my favorite natural pools on the island: El Charco de Los Hombre
